What is Digital Twin Software?
Definition
Digital twin software is the medium through which operators interact with digital twins, which are virtual models of a physical asset.
Why it Matters
Digital twins come in many different forms. On the more complex end of the spectrum, digital twins can be formulated from a combination of BIM models, component modeling, LIDAR and building connected sensors.
This complexity, while powerful, comes at a cost, often prohibitive for all but the newest and most well-resourced properties.
On the other end of the spectrum, digital twin software can be housed in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) using much more light-weight strategies, such as utilizing 360 degree images and inexpensive IoT sensors.
This is often seen as a benefit because building operators often do not need complex analyses, they need to be able to access critical information quickly while on the go.
